The jaguar is one of the most majestic and mysterious animals in nature. Jaguars, like leopards, are known for their elegant, spotted coat. Normally yellow and tan, the coat can also vary from a reddish brown color to black. Their underbelly, throat, and outer surface of the legs and lower flanks are white. The jaguar has a compact body, a broad head and powerful jaws. It is the largest cat in the Americas. Jaguars continue to be threatened by hunting, but their populations are suffering chiefly from habitat loss and fragmentation.
